Living with Cancer- The Therapeutic Value of Massage Therapy, is a workshop developed to educate massage therapists on best practices while working with clients who are living with cancer. Learning Outcomes – The participant should develop an understanding of what cancer is and how it affects the body, mind and spirit of the client. Treatment of cancer will also be discussed, focusing on treatments that may have an effect on the treatment plan. The participant should be able to understand the effects of massage therapy treatment for clients who are navigating the many stages of cancer and cancer treatment. They should be able to adapt their treatment plan to have a positive outcome, and most of all do no harm.


Sheila Bergman, WC(Hon), RMT

Sheila’s advancement of the massage therapy field began at graduation in 1995, when she started instructing at Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies Inc. In 2000, her efforts were awarded with an Honorarium from the College for her dedication and devotion to the field of massage therapy.
In 1999, Sheila’s passion for working with the elderly began at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg Inc. where she gained invaluable experience working with residents of the home until 2009. During her time at Middlechurch, she represented massage therapy on the Palliative Care Team from 2001-2007 and was the Chair from 2005-2007. Sheila continued to present and educate many medical professionals at events such as the Hospice & Palliative Care Annual Conference, the Long Term Care Conference as well as many individual personal care homes.
Her love of the massage therapy field goes well beyond her personal practice. Sheila served on the Board of Directors of the MTAM from 2007-2009 and sat on the Education Committee. In 2013, Sheila was presented with the Award of Merit from the MTAM, for her contributions to the massage therapy field and continues to whole-heartedly advance and educate the entire medical field with her palliative care and educational expertise. In 2016, Sheila was a part of the Standards Advisory Committee for the development of the standards for the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation, and went on to join the team of site surveyors to accredit massage therapy schools across Canada.
In 2014 Sheila, along with Monica Gran, RMT attended a conference with the Society for Oncology Massage in Sarasota, Florida. There she was able to make connections with many skilled therapists who excel in treatment of clients living with cancer.

Cancellations made by March 25, 2020 receive a full refund. Cancellations made from March 26 – April 9, 2020 receive a 50% refund on the full cost of the course. No refunds will be given on cancellations made after April 10, 2020 at 4:30 pm
