 ABOUT THE COURSE

This workshop will provide therapists with a new approach to effectively treating & preventing Lumbrosacral-Hip Complex pain.  Therapists will review myofascial assessment by discussing intake information, as well as using observation, movement, palpation, neurological assessment, referral pain and special tests to translate a patient’s clinical info into an effective treatment plan.  The majority of time is spent in hands-on practice of techniques learned for direct and indirect treatment of the lumbar spine, ribcage, pelvis, lower and upper extremities, as they all relate to back and hip pain.  Supine and prone lower and upper extremity stretch protocols are shown, as well as how to apply proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation if necessary.  In addition, very specific lumbar/trunk, hip/thigh, and ilial/ischial release techniques will be highlighted.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this hands-on workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Assess, organize and formulate an effective treatment plan, as well as review myofascial techniques and how to apply them directly and indirectly.
    • Use techniques learned to specifically release the hip musculature and review the palpation of all structures.
    • Discuss and apply Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation(PNF) to any muscle in the body.
    • Use a lower extremity stretch protocol to safely treat back and hip pain.
      • Gain confidence in limb handling, use safety techniques when stretching a client and review kinesiology of muscles of the hip and lower extremity.
    • Know the importance of treating the ribcage, upper extremity and structures of the thigh(ITB) to relieve back pain.
    • Gain confidence and use new techniques for treating the trunk, thigh and upper extremity.
